The Himalayan Cat

Are a cross between a Persian and a Siamese. They are also known as Colourpoint Persians. Like Persians, Himalayan Cats have a round shaped body with short legs. This makes it harder for them to jump. They have long and flowing fur or medium long and thick. Their eyes are normally blue and a mask, ears, legs, feet, and tail (the points) that are different colour to the rest of the body.

In the 1920s and 30s several breeders were striving to produce a cat with a typical persian body but with siamese markings. Several attemps produced some lines but died out, but after six years the first true Himalayan kitten was born. Through the years great improvements have been achieved and the breed was finally given recognition in the United States in 1957 and in England in 1955 two years before the US but were given the title Colourpoint Longhairs.

They tend to be docile, gentle, outgoing, affectionate and intelligent. They have a distinctive mix of playfulness, devotion and independence. Their gentle nature makes them perfect as indoor companions. They are very compatible with children and other pets. They are not as vocal as the Siamese but louder than the Persian. They speak when they have something to say. They tend to be very loyal to their owner. A true Character.
